In early spring, I asked about our lives returning to a sense of normalcy since the pandemic outbreak began in March 2020. We all have high hopes of the pandemic fading from the spotlight and no longer disrupting our lives.
The CDC loosened many of its coronavirus recommendations, signaling light at the end of the proverbial tunnel. I felt comfortable attending the outdoor Philadelphia Flower Show in June; I wanted to see what was going on in Washington, D.C, and recently a trip to New York City to see the Broadway play Hamilton.
In January, I learned one of my favorite smooth jazz guitarists, the legendary George Benson, was planning a tour stop at the historic Howard Theatre in Washington, D.C. I first saw George Benson back during my college days at The Bijou Café, a Philly Jazz Club. I still have his autograph on a cocktail napkin.
The 10-time Grammy-winning singer and musician performed many of his best-known hits. Which ones? On Broadway, Breezin’, and The Greatest Love of All, in the historic Howard Theatre.
The sold-out 1200-capacity theatre provided the right-size venue for our reserved table seating to appreciate the 79-year-old performer.
