Who needs to dress up in late summer or early fall? Choose something comfortable made with a luxurious fabric in a fabulous bright color like this Kimberly Goldson Donni Ruffle Hem Midi dress.
My mother gave me some fashion advice when I graduated college and became a working girl. “After buying essential elements for your wardrobe, always have something for a wedding or a funeral. You’ll never have to decline those invitations because you don’t have something appropriate to wear.”
Over the years, I took my mother’s advice to heart because I don’t fit the standard women’s size and height. When I see something spectacular, I buy it. I did that when I discovered Kimberly Goldson at my favorite store, Nordstrom.
Nordstrom supports Black-Owned and Black-Founded brands on their website and App; that’s how I discovered Kimberly’s designs. Perhaps nudged by the Black Lives Matters protests, the fashion industry looks to be more inclusive. Saks Fifth Avenue, Shopbop, and Intermix Online also carry Ms. Goldson’s designs.
Does the name Kimberly Goldson sound familiar? If you are a fan of Project Runway, the reality-based television series featuring aspiring designers looking to break into the fashion industry. You may recall that Kimberly captured a starring role as a finalist from the 20 contestants in Season 9 in 2011.
I can be basic and boring, but I’m not afraid of standing out in style, being fearless and distinctive. You can’t beat an oversized dress for comfort. How about the beautiful taffeta material in the vibrant pink gem color? This dress is perfect for a summer soirée like a garden or cocktail party—even New York Fashion week with different accessories and shoes.
Now about Kimberly! After the Project Runway appearance, Goldson and her sister Shelly Powell co-founded her signature brand in 2012. They live and work in Brooklyn with Kim as the head creative and Shelly leading up business and branding.
