Our annual Memorial Day weekend black tie event in Hershey is back.
We all know the 2020 coronavirus public health pandemic derailed many social gatherings. That pause restricted planning a soiree we’ve attended for 30 years, so no dinner dances in 2020 – 2022—nevertheless, our annual Memorial Day weekend black tie event in Hershey is back.
In March this year, the WHO officially ended the COVID-19 health emergency status. So it’s back to normal for regularly scheduled activities. However, most people resume small gatherings much sooner.
Hubby joined the professional men’s social organization The Club Twenty-One in 1993. This organization has a rich history of professional men in central Pennsylvania since its beginning in 1946. The group started when minorities were denied the opportunity to eat and meet in restaurants.
Eligible professional Black men must receive an invitation and acceptance by vote to join the organization, which is limited to twenty-one men at all times. The twenty-one men plan their social event of the year, the annual dinner dance in Hershey, always the Saturday before Memorial Day.
Times are changing; for the first time, we received a digital invite instead of a mailed printed invitation. The younger new members suggested each member be introduced by walking to their theme song playing. My husband’s choice, Shaft🤣
I don’t consider myself a stylist, but I routinely get questions about what to wear to a black-tie event. A black tie typically means formal; for a man, it means a tuxedo, but it can mean different things for a woman; traditionally, it means a floor-length gown.
And please don’t wear a long dress or sundress; these styles typically scream a relaxed occasion.
Don’t forget to amp up your accessories, including purses, shoes, and jewelry; a formal occasion is not an everyday look.
One great benefit of routinely attending formal/black tie events is building a wardrobe of choices. It’s okay to repeat or have gowns already owned altered by a seamstress/tailor for a new look.
Once I have the date for a significant social event, in addition to my regularly scheduled beauty appointments, The planner that I am, I slot additional time for the special occasion for manicures, hair, facials, and alterations for my gown.
Teri Jon is my go-to for classic fit and style. As a vertically challenged and pear-shaped individual, I know I can always find an aline silhouette to compliment my body.
I hope your unofficial start to summer is going great and you have travel plans.
