When was the last time I thought or heard about Banana Republic? It was in 2020 when Gap, the parent company, announced closing 225 stores, including the Harrisburg store, Perhaps the result of the economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Before 2020, Banana Republic gave the aesthetic of classic yet elevated vibes focusing on colors like khaki, black, and cream. I remember when fashion designer Marissa Webb, the BR creative director back in 2014, infused distinctive shades and designs.
I rediscovered Banana last fall, an established brand since 1978 when I purchased a hot pink opera trench coat. For the 2022 Christmas holiday festivities, I scored a white feather camisole from BR.
I matched these best-selling Banana Republic Minna wide-leg linen pants for today’s outfit with the BR Cruz linen utility top. The monotone look is complete for a spring wardrobe refresh. Since I live in Small Town PA, I ordered both pieces online separately, which don’t match.
Believe it or not, social media is helping Banana Republic regain its retail presence and adding a home collection and a new logo, BR.
