1932 Chanel turned an undesirable costume jewelry trend into a fashion classic. We all remember the iconic photo of Audrey Hepburn as Holly Golightly in Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Even the First Ladies of the United States wore them. What did they wear? Pearl jewelry. Is anyone noticing the cool-girl resurgence of this iconic accessory?
According to an online source, The Jewellery Editor, officially the world’s oldest gem, pearls have been revered since long before written history. Their discovery, many say, came from people searching for food along the seashore.
The history books say that wearing pearls is a form of adornment, thanks to a fragment of pearl jewelry found in a Persian princess’s sarcophagus dating back to 420 BC.
Pearl gifts were presented to Chinese royalty as early as 2300 BC. In ancient Rome, pearl jewelry was the ultimate status symbol. The spherical gems were so precious that in the 1st century BC, Julius Caesar passed a law limiting the wearing of pearls only to the ruling class.
For over 4,000 years, pearls have been the prized queen of gems worn by royalty and celebrities. Now, the Magnificent 8 beauties are reinventing the classic gem.
By now, we all know pearl jewelry is appropriate for more than just elegant evening wear. Nothing has changed. Pearls are proving to be a statement fashion trend in 2020.
The pearl theme is the Magnificent 8s blogger link-up final post for 2020. You may recall the first quarterly vintage post where I channeled The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel in January. In April, there are florals, and in July, the color is yellow.
In case you forgot, the Magnificent 8 is a collaboration among eight stylish women, each in a different generation, ranging from the ’20s to the early ’80s. The mission of this collaboration is to show you just how ageless style is.
We can see each dress however we’d like and in ways that make us feel fabulous. There are no age restrictions on chicness. Wear what you want, when you want, add a smile, and strut your style confidently.
Every quarter, we choose a theme, and each creates an outfit that suits our tastes and fashion choices. We post them on the last Wednesday of every third month. So be sure to check everyone’s posts for lots of style inspiration at any age!

It’s not just the Magnificent 8 rocking pearls; pearl jewelry seems trending for fall and winter 2020.
What about you? Have you added statement pearls to your outfits of the day? If yes, you know what to do.
