I’m boldly channeling The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Why! The theme for the first 2020 group post of the Magnificent Eight is styling vintage accessories in a modern way. I thought The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel would be a fun way to capture retro style.
Anybody else enamored with the to-die-for-style of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel? The 1950’s strict attention to detail?
In case you’re not familiar with The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, the Amazon Prime Original series features a well-to-do Jewish family in the late 1950’s early 1960’s living on the Upper Westside of New York City.
The series focuses on the central character, Mrs. Maisel’s marriage, divorce, and subsequent career as a potty-mouth comedienne. The show premiered in March 2017. The full first three seasons are available on Amazon.
Hats off to the award-winning costume designer, Donna Zakowska, for the uncompromising costumes featuring retro hats, gloves, and purses. And so many fabulous outfits.
As for any well-groomed woman of the fifties, it’s all about completing the look. That meant winter stockings, coordinating gloves, a matching hat, and usually a leather purse. My inspiration for the Magnificent Eight theme, Midge, is leaving the butcher shop with her brisket in her matchy-matchy outfit.
My style reflects classic and feminine, so I’m not surprised I purchased this ASOS swing coat in 2015. The accessories also from my closet, opera length leather gloves, and a peau de soie purse. Instead of t-straps, I opted for black leather boots.
Do you remember the Magnificent Eight blogger group? We are a bevy of beauties showcasing style for eight different generations. We teamed up last January for work out gear, April for pastel pattern mixing, and July, to combat the sultry weather wearing white.
Check out what the other beauties in the Magnificent Eight revealing their heirloom style for this group post:
Grace, The Teen: Graceful Rags
Michelle, The 20’s: Michelle’s Paige
New Momma Roxanne, The 30’s: Glass of Glam
Shelbee, The 40’s: Shelbee On The Edge
Rena, The 50’s: FineWhatEverBlog
Lesley, The 70’s: JTouchofStyle
Charlotte, The 80’s: JTouchofStyle
I didn’t fully recreate Mrs. Maisel’s outfit and pose outside Lutzi’s Butcher Shop, but I enjoyed the interpretation of going retro. The creativity is one of the reasons I like participating in group blogger posts. The theme generally agreed upon by the bevy of beauties.
If you have an Amazon Prime membership, I recommend The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Please share your thoughts on the show if you watch it as well as my interpretation of Mrs. Maisel. You can comment via this post on Facebook or log into Disqus.
As always, thank you for reading. Have a fabulous week.
