It’s MLK Day, and it’s time to say Happy Anniversary to my blog, The Age of Grace! This significant milestone began on MLK Day in 2013. I am reflecting on the twelve years I have spent sharing my voice as an influencer and creator of the Age of Grace.
A lot can happen in twelve years. Unfortunately, the most significant change for me personally was the loss of both of my parents. My mom passed away in 2020, and my dad followed suit late last year. Cynthia, my bestie, whom I met at AstraZeneca in 1997, fell out in 2021. My faith helps me continue as life happens while adapting and focusing on what is essential.
I quietly retired last year and knew in 2013 that I wanted to establish something to fuel my passions for writing and promoting a healthy lifestyle. In retirement, I must continue using my voice to speak to women of a certain age. How? Encouraging them to live their best lives, prioritize self-care, and not let themselves fall by the wayside.
On another note, can we talk about female hair loss? I have had to face losing my crown of glory and have been wearing wigs since 2019. Looking back at my early photos from when I started blogging, I can see that my hair loss has worsened. However, I am grateful for my daughter Channing’s help. How? Finding a solution with new hair has boosted my confidence.
Since I’m brutally honest today, I realize I never shared why my style has such a dramatic flair. My paternal grandmother, Marzella—affectionately known as Nana—embodied exaggerated fashion and style.
Standing nearly six feet tall, Nana was a true queen in every sense. As you can see, Nana’s signature look is a blonde wig, sequins, feathers, and fur.
Nevertheless, I reflect on the little luxuries I enjoyed and appreciate the recently encountered opportunities in 2024. Why? Fueling my passions, the beauty of nature as a garden enthusiast. Where? At the annual Philly Flower Show and new to me, Holland Ridge Farms to pick tulips in the spring. Back again to Holland Ridge Farms for sunflowers in the fall.
The delightful afternoon tea experience at two Black-owned businesses, the new Akwaaba Tea Salon and The Ivy Hotel. A new way to experience music with Candlelight Concerts. Of course, fashion and fine dining. I’m grateful for the paid collaborations and the gifting of beauty products to sample and share my findings.
The gifting opportunities included YSL Beauty, Laura Geller Beauty NYC events, IT Cosmetics, and SK-II, all captured on TikTok and IG Stories. I convinced my nonsocial media camera-shy hubby to do a YSL Beauty Reel with me.

I have writing goals and will continue blogging and engaging on social media to build a community.
On this Happy Anniversary occasion, I thank you, family and friends, for supporting me.
