Did You Know Physical Inacivity Causes Joint Deterioration?

Since my 65th birthday in September, I’d like to think I’m healthy senior aging well. I’ve done an excellent job with my annual preventive screenings for maintaining my health.  But I’m definitely sitting more and moving less; perhaps it’s all the Netflix binging.

How can you prevent joint deterioration or arthritis?

Telfar Shopping Bag

♦  Keep a healthy body weight.  Extra weight puts stress on your joints.
◊  Control your blood sugar.  High blood sugar levels raise your risk of getting Osteoarthritis/OA.
♥  Be active every day.
◊  Joint injuries increase your risk of getting OA.
♠  Pay attention to pain.
Seek medical attention if any joint pain persists for more than one hour

Staying Active Helps Decrease Joint Deterioration

OA is a result of using your joints every day.  As we age, the more wear-and-tear happens. You can’t fully prevent osteoarthritis. But you can help lessen daily stress on your joints. Taking good care can help prevent joint problems.

Did the COVID-19 health pandemic affect your ability to stay active every day? Do tell! For me, yes! Too much sitting with work Zoom calls and Netflix binging.

As always, thank you for your support. Follow guidelines by masking, distancing, and washing of hands.
