We know things can get hectic as we enter the celebratory Christmas season. I intentionally plan annual relaxation at the Hershey Spa to escape the hustle and bustle.
When my daughter, Channing, moved to NYC a few years ago, relaxing at the Hershey Spa became one of our annual holiday traditions to enjoy mommy-daughter moments.
. I recently learned there is good stress and bad stress. “It’s about the perception of that stress and how your body is handling it,” according to Safia Debar, a stress management expert at the Mayo Clinic.
Ms. Debar goes on to say, “Chronic stress impacts every organ in the body: You might feel anxiety, depression, and digestive issues, for example,” Additional physical manifestations of bad stress could include headaches, chest pain, stomach upsets, problems sleeping, or getting sick more often.
As mentioned earlier, how we handle stress determines whether it’s good or bad. I heard another term recently, Anticipatory anxiety. Which I think we all suffer from to a degree. For example, the first day at a new job, meeting someone for the first time, or going somewhere alone. When I attended the EpicLight Lip Flip Treatment Balm, I went by myself, although my daughter rode to NYC with me to visit the ESPN NYC office,
Christmas can quickly engulf us if we let the responsibilities of buying, shopping, and doing get to us. How do I escape? Annual relaxation at the Hershey Spa.
Each December, we look to enrich our spa experience. Last year, I learned I could enhance my member-free overnight stay. How? By paying a small fee to stay at the Woodside Cottages instead of the hotel. This year, we extended our services to a second day after checking out the cottage. Day one: Chocolate Soak, lunch in the Oasis, and Rose Garden massages. Day two: pedicures, lunch in the Oasis, and lots of laughing, lounging, and relaxing between services.
Of course, visiting a spa to alleviate holiday stress is unnecessary, but it is the ultimate self-care. There is a plethora of ways to reduce holiday or everyday stress. ⬇️
Do you have any holiday traditions to help you relax during Christmas? If yes, do share.
As always, thank you for visiting the Age of Grace.
