It’s September 16! Happy Birthday to me.
As a midlifer, birthdays take on special meanings. Why! For me, I’m claiming excellent health while aging gracefully. This year alone, I’m sad to say I attended two funerals of people younger than me.
Ten years ago, my blood pressure increased to borderline hypertension according to the changing guidelines. My internist proactively put me on a low dose of medication to keep the numbers from rising.
Another suggestion by my doctor was to keep my weight no more than ten pounds up and ten pounds down. I’m happy I am on the same medication at the low dose and stayed within the ten-pound range.
What does aging gracefully mean? It’s not just appearance, my interpretation, that’s helping me age gracefully:
Exercise regularly, specifically aerobics
Muscle and bone strengthening exercises
Get enough sleep
Eating lots of fruits and veggies
Limit red meat
Not smoking
Lots of water
Limit Alcohol
Limit Sugar
Annual Health Exams
Mental Health matters
Be Kind to your skin
Lower your stress
Keep your mind sharp
Connecting with like minds
Choose a great attitude
Practice forgiveness
Being grateful
Do things that make you happy
Core purpose with annual goals
Laugh often
It’s a long list, but I try to follow it. However, I need to incorporate resistance training to prevent muscle mass loss.
For the last five years, on September 16, I have usually spent my birthday day relaxing at the Spa at the Hotel Hershey. I plan to attend a Smooth Jazz concert this year to see one of my favorite saxophonists.
This Saturday is not a treat, but my monthly Rezenerate Nano Facial treatment with Krissy. At the end of the month, I plan to spend a day at the Hershey Spa and a day trip to New York City.
Thank you for stopping by The Age of Grace this September 16; I appreciate you.
