In today’s post, I’m wearing recycled materials to share my commitment to reducing my carbon footprint.
You may recall that, late last year, I vowed to move away from fast fashion and seek out companies committed to sustainability. I’m intentionally withdrawing from fast fashion but focusing on manufacturers specializing in old-fashioned craftsmanship and sourcing more responsibly.
The longline quilted vest from COS features recycled polyester. Repurposed polyester comes from plastic bottles and excess fibers, thus reducing waste products.
My heather grey high-waisted skirt is from J. Crew’s sustainable cashmere line. This ultra-luxe fiber is certified by The Good Cashmere Standard. Who is The Cashmere Standard? An independent standard of responsible cashmere that aims to improve the welfare of cashmere goats, farmers, and farming communities.
Another sustainable score is Vintage Kashmir. This Esty store features pure recycled cashmere made in California. I’m wearing the brand’s recycled fingerless gloves in black in the above photo.
I don’t get to do vintage shopping as much as I’d like, but I discovered an online source, Estelle Colored Glass, to add jewels to my holiday table. This female minority-owned company is an excellent example of hand-blown glass craftsmanship and elegance.
Stay tuned for my monthly sustainable spotlight. Why? I plan to seek treasures from recycled materials, reimagined products, and old-fashioned handmade items.
