The new year brings new style challenges for the Magnificent Eight Instagram group. What’s the agreed-upon January theme? The Pantone color of the year is Viva Magenta. I chose to wear my Banana Republic opera coat, a bright peony pink and not quite Pantone Viva Magenta.
The Pantone Color Institute’s global team of color experts chose an unconventional shade for an unprecedented time. As the world returns to normal, we still feel the effects of the public health emergency.
How does Pantone describe Viva Magenta? As “brave, fearless, and a pulsating color whose exuberance promotes a joyous and optimistic celebration, writing a new narrative.”
Viva magenta is a hybrid color that looks redder than pink or Fuschia. You will undoubtedly see various magenta-hued products, from home goods to fashions.
January is typically a gloomy, cold month, making it the perfect time to sport uplifting, bold, bright, vibrant colors. This not-quite Viva Magenta coat checks this box.
I’m not far off base with my bright peony pink opera coat; I see Pantone color forecasts for spring and summer 2023 palettes include beetroot purple (like my bright peony pink).
And it is still going strong, the classic solid green better known as the Bottega green.

Do you ever wonder who decides on the color of the year? According to the Pantone website, “Twice a year, Pantone hosts, in a European capital, a secret meeting of representatives from various nations’ color standards groups. After two days of presentations and debates, they choose a color for the following year.”
I appreciate you stopping by.
