I turned my home into the Double Nickels Art Gallery this past weekend. The idea came a few months ago when I reconnected with an acquaintance from church. We recently became stepping buddies.
As the event/party planner that I am, I commenced with the intimate details that are always involved when organizing a get-together: selecting the date, invitations, whether snail mail or social media, and the menu. I also discussed how to set up my traditional home as a Double Nickels Art Gallery for contemporary abstract artist Joyce.
I must admit I was not a true fan of contemporary abstract art. The art I’ve collected over the years is more traditional, with African American artists like Michael Partee, Tom McKinney, and Dane Tilghman for their limited editions. The art party was a learning experience for my husband and I. As each guest arrived at our home, the first comment was, I love abstract art.
Observing my guests as they slowly paced through the three rooms set up for the Double Nickels Art Gallery was fascinating. I also enjoyed hearing their comments on where the interested painting could be placed in their home or office. Some attendees thought about the colors currently in the house and the hues in the artwork. Joyce offers excellent customer service to bring the interested piece to the person’s designated location for the art placement.
I never plan a home party without giving small gifts that make my guests feel special for attending an event at my home. I always give a small token to the first guest to arrive, the person who traveled the farthest, and I raffle off a gift basket that I make full of goodies.
Now, the menu, for me, is about visual presentation. I love using the crystal and Wilton Armetale silver platters I’ve collected over the years to highlight the small bite selections. The health advocate that I am, I always offer seasonal fruit. This time of the year, the fruit selection included clementines, apples, and grapes. Since it was an art event, I furnished the aptly appropriate wine, cheese, and crackers. Thank you, Costco, for the excellent protein cheese recommendations, including mild Brie, Gorgonzola, and a Jarlsberg. The beverages include wine with sparkling San Pellegrino and flat water. Oh, I had to include soft Philly Pretzels.
Joyce, watching my friends and family enjoy your abstract art was a fabulous day. I watched them make purchases and, most importantly, had the opportunity to make time to connect with special people you may not otherwise see. It was my pleasure to turn my home into a Double Nickels Art Gallery for an afternoon of art appreciation.
Have a fabulous week.
Love the decor, it looks like it was such a nice day! But I really love this dress on your with the tights, it looks so chic!
Chan,
Thank you for stopping by the Age of Grace. You know how I like to entertain, the Martha in me comes on strong. The Banana Republic seamed dress is chic, you will love that one I got for you in pink.
You look amazing! Love your outfit and the party looks like a success!
Cynthia,
Thank you for stopping by the Age of Grace. I stalked this Banana Republic dress from when it was shown at the NYFW Fall 2015 last spring. It was meant to be because with 40% off it was the last one in my size.
We missed having you at the Double Nickels Art Party.
First of all, let me begin by stating how absolutely elegant you look. Stunning. Regal. Perfection. I love the statement leg and necklace. Such a perfectly composed ensemble. You and I have something in common…I love throwing a good party. I receive so much joy in seeing others enjoy themselves.
Glenda,
Hi! It is a pleasure to hear from you, thank you for your kind words. Yes, entertaining is a fun and creative way to share, be creative and share joy with others.
