I wanted to talk about the beautiful day of this year’s spring equinox. Instead, you may recall, I preferred to get the single-dose vaccine. But then I learned about Carrie’s Angels, the COVID-19 Vaccine Hunters.
Who are Carrie’s Angels? She is a local Harrisburg volunteer, assisted by her mother and two sisters. These ladies are vaccine hunters committed to helping mostly older adults and/or those lacking online options.
Surprisingly, I learned about Carrie’s Angels in the hair salon on a Friday. The salon owner’s mother and I discussed the lack of availability for the COVID-19 vaccine in Central Pennsylvania. We concluded that we would share the info if she or I found the vaccine.
A few days later, I did receive communication from the hair salon about Carrie’s Angels volunteering their time to help seniors get COVID-19 vaccine appointments.
I called Carrie on Monday, March 15, and provided basic information: age, address, and contact phone number/email address. Early Tuesday morning, I received an email with two scheduled appointments.
A day later, on Tuesday, I received a text message from a CVS Pharmacy informing me of my vaccine appointments. I just needed to confirm my commitment to take the two scheduled appointments.
On Wednesday, March 17, I traveled about half an hour from my home to a CVS in Carlisle. The drugstore’s parking lot was full of mostly elderly adults, obviously scheduled for the vaccine.
From start to finish, a quick and organized COVID-19 vaccine experience at the drugstore. After confirming my timed appointment, I received a COVID-19 vaccination record call upon entry to the pharmacy.
First, a short, socially distanced line with a clerk explaining the vaccination process. Next, an aisle of spaced-out chairs to sit down and receive my first Pfizer vaccine dose.
For someone who doesn’t like needles, it was over before I knew it: the only adverse event was some soreness at the injection site and a slight headache.
It seems that COVID-19 Vaccinations are now more accessible, especially with the assistance of Carrie’s vaccine hunters.
Thank you, Carrie’s Angels!
As always, thank you for reading.
