Hello, Beauties🌸 Today’s post a follow-up to last week’s Wellness Wednesday. May being Health Vision Awareness Month, here are Eight Important Tips About Progressive Eye Care. Please read on to learn more about aging eyes.
Just like clockwork, when I entered middle age, my eyes were the first of my senses to change. I’ve worn eyeglasses since the fifth grade. However, I become a faithful gas permeable contact lens wearer in college.
It was during that time in 1997 as a midlifer; I became a pharmaceutical sales specialist right when computer use exploded. I remember when I interviewed with AstraZeneca in Pittsburgh with as many as five different people. The main question, Are you comfortable using a computer?
I couldn’t imagine what the big deal about computer use. Little did I know, so many operating procedures required the utilization of computers: training, expense reports, online meetings, keeping track of daily workload, and sample inventory.
All that screen work, It was if everything just became a blur. Whoever, said, “The eyes are the first to go,” wasn’t kidding as confirmed by my ophthalmologist. It was not only the computer screen but menu reading that I faced reality and the need for readers. Not just one pair of readers but in the car, every room upstairs, downstairs and my purse.
Of course, nowadays we baby boomers dare not say bifocals, we prefer progressive. The term is multifocal lenses. As we age, we inevitably develop presbyopia, which translates literally to “aging eye.” In 2005, the World Health Organization reported at least one billion people worldwide had this problem. Presbyopia affects people who have always worn glasses and people who have ever had perfect vision alike.
According to an online source, Presbyopia happens because as you age, your eyes’ lenses gradually harden. They’re no longer as elastic as they were when you were young, so they have a harder time focusing on the objects around you, especially on nearby objects. Most people start to notice presbyopia when they can’t see words on a page or computer screen as well as they once did.
