As October ends, a month dedicated to breast cancer awareness, I find it compelling to highlight the impactful work of the Pink Parasol Project. This initiative not only raises vital awareness. But also provides essential support to those affected by breast cancer, making it a worthy cause to champion.
Pink Power is a nonprofit organization in York County, Pennsylvania. It raises funds and awareness for local breast cancer, assists needy patients, and brings people together to celebrate survivors and share stories of hope. Congratulations on achieving the goal of raising $877,000 for local beneficiaries since its inception in 2017.
According to Denise Gilliland, breast cancer survivor, founder, and president of Pink Power. “The inspiration came from the Umbrella Sky Project in Portugal.” Denise uses this platform to educate people on the importance of yearly screenings and genetic testing for those who have a history of cancer in their family.
The Pink Parasol is a new initiative to promote breast cancer awareness in the York area. A showcase of 100 hanging pink umbrellas called Pink Parasols on Cherry Lane.
The real story is that 1 in 8 women will face breast cancer in their lifetime after skin cancer. Breast cancer remains the most commonly diagnosed cancer in women in the United States. My dear mother’s 2008 breast cancer diagnosis at the age of 72; nevertheless, she survived the double mastectomy and lived until 2024. The 5-year relative survival rate in the U.S. for all types and stages of breast cancer combined is 91%.
Annual mammograms are a safe and effective first step in detecting breast cancer. The Genius 3D machine is also a screening machine designed for early detection. If the test results show unusual findings, further diagnostic testing is necessary.

As you can see, it’s the last day of October, and I’m just now posting about Breast Cancer Awareness. It’s never too late to remind, share, and educate women about Breast Cancer. Unfortunately, the staggering statistics of 1 in 8 women who will face this dreaded disease hasn’t changed.
Above all, my dear Dad passed away on October 16, and I wanted to focus on his Homegoing Services with my siblings. A special thank you to everyone who called sent cards and flowers or attended my Dad’s service.
I appreciate your support and love here at The Age of Grace.
