While everyone else shopped Black Friday weekend, I motored to Brandywine Valley to visit an enduring lavish estate for the Longwood Gardens Christmas experience.
With my long history of attending the Philadelphia Flower Show, I like to feast my eyes on horticultural beauty; I inherited my green thumb and love of natural beauty from my Mom.
I write this post missing my Mom; today, December 3, is her 86th Birthday. Happy Heavenly Birthday, Mom๐๐. Mom enjoyed an outing with her girls to Longwood Gardens any time of the year, but mainly at Christmas.
Longwood Gardens never disappoints with its dazzling displays and botanical splendor. Weatherwise, it was a beautiful day for walking over 1,00 acresโa manageable crowd with the required timed admission tickets.
My only disappointment was not making dinner reservations for 1906 at Longwood Gardens, the full-service dining experience. The elegant fine dining room is named in honor of Pierre S DuPont. Mr. DuPont, the owner, purchased the grounds that developed into Longwood Gardens.
The showstopper of this holiday experience is the couture gown titled the “Red Dress.” The “Red Dress” is a collaboration of 13 chosen students and faculty at Drexel University’s Westphal College of Media Arts & Design and Longwood.
The handcrafted design consisted of holiday-inspired, preserved, dried, and faux floral materials to create a spectacular work of art.
The graduate, undergraduate students, and faculty took inspiration from Egyptian glass ornaments, hoping to capture movement, delicacy, and luxury. I say mission accomplished.
But wait, there’s more. Check out my Monday Instagram stories for more Longwood Christmas photos.
Thank you for visiting with me.
