We all agree that COVID-19 disrupted our everyday lives starting in March 2020. Here we are in mid-2022, and my question is, are we back to a sense of normalcy?
We have all experienced changes in our personal lives, primarily in how we work, travel, shop, and play.
How many moments of social disruptions can we talk about in nearly three years?
The delayed or altered weddings, funerals, birthday celebrations, vacations, Thanksgiving, and Christmas family gatherings, to name a few.
This Memorial Day weekend personally reminds me that we haven’t returned to a sense of normalcy. Since 1993, as members of the Social Club 21 for African American professional men in Central Pennsylvania, my husband, I, and some great friends have attended an annual black-tie dinner dance in Hershey.
Because of the health pandemic, there were no Club 21 celebrations in 2020 and 2021. This year’s soirée will be held in September at the Peter Allen House, an elegant Stone Mountain landmark.
Hopefully, the social disruptions over the last few years helped us re-examine life’s expectations and realize how fragile we are in everyday living.
How about you? Are you back to a sense of normalcy in your life? A final note: It saddens my heart to continue to hear about useless violence against children and minorities.
Thank you for reading. Stay safe while enjoying the Memorial Day holiday.
