A bevy of beauties styling assignment: A brooch.
Some fashion accessories keep circling until they land on the fashion radar. The brooch is having its moment. Perhaps you’ve noticed the resurgence of this jeweled adornment.
As a child, I recall my Nana’s dresser drawers filled with brooches, or perhaps they were pins. And some of you are mature enough to remember the power suit of the nineties, usually adorned with a lapel pin or a clip. I have a small collection from that time.
According to online sources, the history of brooches dates back to the Bronze Age (2000-500 BC), when metal was adopted as a shared resource.
Early societies such as the Greeks, Romans, and Celts found ways to secure and clasp their clothing together, introducing early forms of the decorative brooch.
Noteworthy Statement Brooches
Fulco di Verdura, the renowned jeweler for Coco Chanel, designed costume pieces for fashion designers.
Former Secretary of State Madeline Albright’s collection of more than 200 pins featured in a 2010 Smithsonian exhibition.
Singer, composer, and fashion designer Rihanna reimagined the classic cameo brooch embellished with “family portraits” by Nigerian photographer Ruth Ossai.
How about Lady Gaga’s showstopping Dove brooch at Joe Biden’s 2020 Inauguration?
My question is, what’s the difference between a brooch and a pin?
All brooches are pins, but not all pins are brooches.
