Who What Wear Beauty Feature Shutting Down Cliches For Ladies Over 40
September 25 was not a great day for me. Why? My beloved mother, Bessie Louise, departed from this earthly life. Nevertheless, amid my sorrow,  my Who What Wear Beauty feature appeared on their website with eight other ladies over 40 the next day. The post titled, “These 8 Ladies Over 40 Just Shut Down Every Cliché I’ve Ever Heard About Aging.”

Since turning 65 last month, I jumped at the chance when Who What Wear Associate Beauty Editor Courtney Higgs contacted me to talk about beauty clichés for women over 40.

My contribution to the article about aging gracefully is sharing the beauty myths I don’t subscribe to and answering questions about my beauty regimen.

Pat McGrath LuxeTrance Lipstick, a bold lip color

As a woman of a certain age, there are many schools of thought about what we can and cannot wear or do—my beauty conviction. I don’t believe midlifers should retire from wearing a bold lip. Society says that bright colors draw attention to wrinkles and sagging, but I say a vibrant lip color elevates one’s confidence.

Post Juvéderm Post Feature
You already know my beauty secrets: wearing SPF daily, recently adopting sea moss, plunging into a liquid facelift with Juvederm, and monthly facials services over the last twenty-something years.

Black Lives Matter Logo

With the Black Lives Matter explosions earlier this year, my interest in supporting Black-owned, women-led businesses expanded. I put my money where my mouth is, and I now use the following products:
Pholk Daily Detox Face Wash
SPF – Black Girl Sunscreen
Fenty Hydra Vizor Invisible Moisturizer
Fenty Pro Filt’r Mattifying Primer

My mother and Nana taught me to care for my skin at a young age. I remember Mom and I indulged in Adrien Arpel’s facial and beauty products early in my teen years. Sitting at a makeup counter, I understood the beneficial ingredients for my oily skin.

Thank you, Courtney Higgs, for sharing a beauty feature with Who What Wear.

As always, thank you for reading. Please follow the CDC guidelines to help stop the resurgence of COVID-19 this upcoming flu season.
