Since 2000, the Pantone Color Institute has declared a particular color the “Color of the Year.” Back in 2009, the global authority selected the cheery mimosa color during a time of economic uncertainty. Today, the Magnificent eight is not waiting for another decade to acknowledge this hue. So check out the bevy of beauties rocking the color yellow.
In 1990, Crayola Crayons permanently deleted some of its colors, including lemon yellow. You usually don’t associate anything negative with the color yellow.
I did come across one negative aspect regarding the color yellow. During World War II, the Nazis forced Jewish people in Germany to wear a yellow badge with the Star of David.
As a gardener, I think of yellow as flowers: the fragrant Charlotte rose, the summer sunflower, the spring daffodils, and my long-last blooming perennial yellow coneflowers and, of course, the sun. There is a mimosa tree, and how about Mimosa at Sunday Brunch?
No more history lesson; now, let’s talk about the color yellow. According to Pantone’s executive director, Leatrice Eiseman, “The color yellow exemplifies the warmth and nurturing quality of the sun, properties we as humans are naturally drawn to for reassurance. Mimosa also speaks to enlightenment, as it is a hue that sparks imagination and innovation.”
I’m generally not a person who selects yellow as a color choice. However, this outfit of the week is my third time wearing yellow this summer: the first outfit was just yellow accessories for my SPF post. The second look is a yellow dress in a garden for my article on 50 Years of Essence magazine.
Today, I’m linking with the Magnificent ladies for our quarterly agreed-upon theme. I’m wearing an unusual yellow vanilla custard as a sheer coat over a slip dress, a fresh choice with the hot, humid temperatures in Central Pennsylvania.
In case you forgot, the Magnificent 8 is a collaboration among eight stylish women, each in a different generation, ranging from the ’20s to the early ’80s. The mission of this collaboration is to show you just how ageless style.
We can see each dress however we’d like and in ways that make us feel fabulous. There are no age restrictions on chicness. So wear what you want, when you want, add a smile, and strut your style with confidence.
Every quarter, we choose a theme, and each creates an outfit that suits our tastes and fashion choices. We post them on the last Wednesday of every third month. So be sure to go check out everyone’s posts for lots of style inspiration at any age!

Do I refrain from the color yellow because of Sesame Street’s Big Bird character? Yes! I know I don’t want to look like the eight-foot canary. However, I associate Big Bird as an excellent role model on the children’s education channel.
“Bad days happen to everyone, but when one happens to you, just keep doing your best and never let a bad day make you feel bad about yourself.” Big Bird
