Hello, Beauties🌸 Today’s post, the details on Another Soirée To Remember, my annual black-tie event.
Most people celebrate Memorial Day with cookouts and family gatherings, hopefully acknowledging those who lost their lives protecting the United States. The hubby and I, along with four other couples, observe the long weekend with a black-tie event. Where? The sweetest place on earth, Hershey.
Who goes to a fancy formal affair on a holiday weekend? For hubster and me, it’s been a twenty-two-year tradition since he joined the Harrisburg Club Twenty-One social club. The group has a rich seventy-three-year history of this annual formal event.
It’s worth repeating the origins of this group of twenty-one professional African American men. The organization dates back to 1946, comprising 21 African American men. The club started when advanced men were barred from local professional organizations and restaurants. The men formed a social club to play cards, hold outings with their families, and impact the local community.
The membership adopted a name similar to a famous and highly respected club in New York City. The name stems from the maximum number of members allowed at any given time. New members are invited to join when someone dies, resigns, or seeks Emeritus status. Right now, there are five membership openings.
Who gets to attend? Albeit not the Met Gala, our little fancy affair is by invitation only. Our small group of fabulous friends includes best friend Cynthia and her hubby Howard; Trent’s Bucknell College buddy Tony and his wife, Edna; fellow pharmaceutical representative April and her hubs, Tony. Last, my resident Face Forward photographer, Kenya Pickles, and her hubster, Craig.
The evening starts with an hour-long cocktail reception, which notably had fewer attendees. At 7:30 PM, everyone heads into the ballroom for a four-course sit-down dinner. The food is not little bites and nibbles here. Our guests preselect prime beef, salmon, chicken, or vegetable entrees.
As with any fabulous event, there is entertainment, dining, and the attendees. Let’s start with how we danced the night away with music by smooth jazz saxman Art Sherrod, Jr., back by popular demand.
What’s a night without some fun, laughter, and celebrations of one another? And a Sunday morning Brunch to continue our conversations, remember the shenanigans from the night before and continue to forge our friendships.
And just like that, another soirée to remember. Life goes by so fast, and I’m thrilled I have an event to bring friends together to celebrate one another. Do you have a special occasion to bring family or friends together? Do share in the comments section.
As always, thank you for reading. Have a fabulous week.
