Memorial Day weekend isn’t just about remembering the heroes who served our country but also my annual Club 21 dinner dance after months of preparation.
The guests entered the Hershey Lodge and Convention Center to find cocktails and light bites in the reception area. The men in their tuxedos looked like a sea of penguins, while the women mainly wore floor-length gowns.
Nearly 300 guests are reminded of the elegance of the evening as they enter the Chocolate Ballroom. to find the number 21 spotlighted on the wall. Once guests locate their reserved tables, a short history of Club 21 is presented, and the twenty-one members are introduced to the audience. The four-course meal included dinner entrees of either salmon or prime rib (unless one had dietary restrictions).
World-renowned saxophonist Art Sherrod, Jr., provided the evening’s entertainment. His band was smooth and mellow the entire night. During Art’s breaks, the DJ played throwback music for the crowd, which was mostly over 50 years old.
On a personal note, I quickly logged 10,000 steps on the dance floor; my two-step carried me through the midnight hour. To prepare my feet for a night of dancing, I do a lavender Epsom foot soak the day before and after the dance. I don’t recommend dancing in four-inch heels.
As for this year’s hairstyle, I opted for a flirty ponytail with the help of my hair stylist. The style was a welcome fun look, especially since it was a hot and humid day.
Our guests included three couples other than my husband and me: my niece and her husband, my husband’s buddy from college and his wife, and my BFF and her husband.
Notice the très chic piece of vintage jewelry in the above photo? I plan to interview the women behind the stunning bracelet ring combo, so stay tuned.
We like to continue our yearly celebration with brunch the next day. This year, we chose Café 1500 in midtown Harrisburg.
How did you spend your long red, white, and blue weekends? Any ‘oh what a night’ memories to share?
Have a fabulous week!
