Philly WordCamp 2015
June is the perfect time to re-visit my 2015 Vision Board goals. I update and add to it quarterly. I treat it like a living document to help me stay focused and accomplish my objectives. So, last weekend, I fulfilled another aspiration when I attended my first WordCamp Philly 2015.
What is a WordCamp Philly 2015? I am glad you asked. The Girl Develop It (a gender-specific diversity group that teaches women about HTML and CSS coding) website provides the perfect description. A Word Camp is a conference that focuses on everything WordPress. Word Camps are informal, affordable, community-organized events that Word Press users put together. This year was the fifth year for the camp, with 300 people in attendance.
Now, what is WordPress? WordPress is web software that I use to create my blog. The WordPress template is free; the cost is for someone to host your website blog. It is like paying rent for your space on the Internet. WordPress is the most popular blogging system on the Web, and it is used by more than 60 million websites/blogs.
Now that you know more about WordPress, I was impressed with the WordPress camp for those who are not bloggers, right down to my black bean burger option for lunch. Someone created a logo for the function, and the identification badge provided included everything you needed to know to attend the scheduled classes.
I chose the novice track to better acquaint myself with the dashboard’s inner workings. Thanks to the generosity of the sponsors, Bluehost, Jetpack, WiredTree, Go Daddy, and DreamHost, the day-long camp, which included lunch and snacks, was only $20.00.
When I started blogging in 2013, I knew very little about blogging and social media. Who knew this venture would be so informative and great for making new connections? My hubby accompanied me to the camp and was allowed to sit in on my classes even though he didn’t register.
This is the event for you if you are a blogger or looking to start a website or blog. WordCamps are organized in many communities in the United States and other countries.
Have a fabulous first week of summer!
Wow! I love the Colour combination. Zing-a-ding-a-ing. Cheering up a dull (summer) day here in Scotland. Great shoes! x
