Goodbye January! Spring is just around the corner.ย Even though that groundhog shmounghog said six more weeks of winter–evidenced by the endless winter storms the first week in February–, I’m over this ongoing wintery mix. Let’s focus on the fashion forecast for spring!
In my Springing Forward with Kate post, I reported on the emerald green as the 2013 Pantone color of the year. Once again, Pantone Inc. (drum roll, please), the global authority on color, announced radiant orchid as the 2014 color of the year.
Radiant Orchid is undoubtedly soon to become a timeless classic with an edge. In a press release from Pantone, the color institute’s executive director stated, “While the 2013 color of the year, Pantone 17-5641 Emerald, served as a symbol of growth, renewal, and prosperity, radiant orchid reaches across the color wheel to intrigue the eye and spark the imagination.”
While Pantone is predicting the color of Spring, the fashion industry focuses on New York Fashion Week, where, starting February 6th, designers will present their Fall 2014 collections to buyers, retailers, editors, journalists, and bloggers with 69 runway shows and presentations. It seems cruel to think of Spring and Fall when everyone across the United States suffers from frigid temperatures thanks to a never-ending polar vortex. But considering we know what Spring ‘IT’ color will be, let’s talk about other essential trends for the spring/summer months.
Top Spring Trends:
Color: ย Not only radiant orchid as the “It” color but the return of Pumped-Up Pastels that include blues, pinks and yellows to name a few.
Prints: ย Bold Floral Dresses
It’s hard to believe that Diane Von Furstenberg introduced the iconic wrap dress 40 years ago. ย This lady-like vibe continues to be full this spring with bold floral prints and pastel dresses.

Don’t let the triple threat of snow, ice, and freezing rain get you off your fashion game. I hope this information about spring fashions brings some warm thoughts.
