It’s My Birthday
One would think that I celebrated a milestone birthday this year. In late August, I was told to reserve a date for the girls to get together—no problem! As the August date approached, I asked if I could bring anything to help us with the dinner we were scheduled to enjoy. I was told there was no need to bring anything.
So August 31st rolls around, and it gets to be late in the day. Typically, I purchase my hostess gift the day before, but being lazy, I thought I would pop into the local flower store to buy the gift. My mother always told me that when someone invites me to their home for dinner, I should bring a gift for the hostess. If you are a frequent guest at home, you are not expected to take a gift to the hostess each time. Still, I typically will bring a bouquet to let the hostess know I appreciate her invitation and the hospitality extended to me. I had to give a plug to Emily Post for her rules of etiquette, as per my Mom.
I say all that to say on August 31st, I was expected to meet up with the girls for dinner at 5:00 PM. If anyone knows me, I don’t like to be late, and I always show up with a gift for the hostess. I was having a lazy day and lost track of time. I needed to get my hostess gift, so I decided to get a bouquet, I thought I could run into the local supermarket to get a bunch real quick, but no, it was crazy busy, and no self-check-out. I get through the line and back into my car, by this time it was about 5:00 PM, I get a phone call from the hostess asking me was I still coming. I am thinking, you know I am never late, you know I would have called you if I there was a change of plans, so what was the big deal. Little did I know, it was a surprise party for me. They got me!
How thoughtful and exciting it is to celebrate your birthday with wonderful, kind, and loving friends! I am so blessed to know such extraordinary ladies. Thank you Lynne, Lois, Sandy, Jeannine, Connie, and Leslie. Thanks also to Teri, Cynthia, and Betty for traveling from Philly to make my surprise memorable.
Between my actual birthday and my husband’s birthday, September 8th was my 29th wedding anniversary. My hubby and I celebrated at the Hotel Hershey Circular dining room. As my hubby said, I made reservations at your favorite place for brunch—he knows me!!
Fast-forward to the weekend of my actual birthday. New York Fashion Week ended on Thursday, and my Channing headed home to the “Burg” for some R & R and to spend time with the family to celebrate my birthday. We enjoyed a quiet family birthday celebration at Bonefish, a local restaurant in the Camp Hill area. I am so thankful for having such loving friends and family.
Happy Birthday to you and your hubby! Happy Anniversary, too!
What a wonderful group of friends you have. No better gift than spending time with family and friends, right?
Have a great week!
Jeannie, so very nice to hear from you, thank you for the Happy Birthday and Anniversary wishes, I truly appreciate it.
