Falling Forward
The summer of 2013 unofficially came to an end last Labor Day weekend. Not long ago, I wrote a blog post at the beginning of summer. I can’t believe summer is over. Are you? Without even looking at the calendar, the local annual attractions remind me that it’s September. Locally, one can celebrate a yearly host of events in Central Pennsylvania that include Harrisburg’s Labor Day Weekend River Festival – Kipona, Lancaster’s Long’s Park 35th Annual Art & Craft Festival, and the start of many local fairs, including the largest in the state, The Bloomsburg Fair.
Collectively, children are back in school, acorns are on the ground, the seasonal ragweed pollen started August 15th, and the very familiar ‘Are you ready for some football commercials?’ is playing nonstop on the television.
It’s the best time of the year–bring on crisp nights, breathtaking fall foliage, crunching leaves, gorgeous mums everywhere for sale, golden sunsets, sunflowers, pomegranates, apple cider, pumpkin lattes, football games, homecomings, scarves, sweaters, boots, plaid, leather, bike rides, and long walks again now that intense temps have passed. Can you tell I love autumn? It’s my favorite season.
This summer’s memorable events included the George Zimmerman versus Travon Martin verdict, the 50th anniversary of The March on Washington with Dr. King’s “I Have a Dream” speech, the birth across the pond of the royal baby George, and, thankfully, no major noteworthy weather disasters.
My summer included many trips to NYC to visit and continue to explore Manhattan (my daughter moved there in January of this year) and trips to Philly to see my Mom and family, but sadly, there was no international flight this summer; the French connection was made last summer.
Time is just ticking. Even though summer doesn’t end until September 21st, we’re officially falling forward! What is your favorite season?

I am like you Fall is one of my Favorite seasons next to Spring. Love the foliage and tempature that comes with Fall especially being in Central PA but lately the Foilage does not stay around long enough for me. Nevertheless, I will embrace this season as it passes through along with this season of my life. Good hearing from you as usual! Looking forward to seeing what we need to be wearing this Fall! Have A great Day!
April,
Hi! Always a pleasure to hear from you, I agree with you about Fall in Central Pa, we seem to get short changed for full blooming long lasting Autumn foliage.
