Dream Girl
“Where there is no vision, people perishโฆ.”
Do you ever dream or aspire to land that perfect job or accomplish a particular task?
Over the last four years, I watched someone dear to me not only land the perfect job amid a sour economy and high unemployment rate but also set up steps to accomplish this position by writing down her vision. I was inspired by the steps she took to land that perfect job.
I am speaking of my daughter, Channing. She graduated from college in 2009 with a PSU degree in Broadcast Journalism. Unfortunately, she could not secure a suitable job in our small town.
The journey begins with creating her blog, Channinginthecityโa style blog sparked by one writer’s journey to finding a job in New York City.
The quote above is a verse from Proverbs that says, “Were there is no vision, people perishโฆ”
“Channing took the time to examine herself for personal/ professional goals and created a vision board.
“Vision boards put goals in your subconscious mind, where they steer your everyday choices toward making the vision happen.”
“Fast-forward to 2013. After countless trips by train to New York City and endless interviews with no response, you were finally hired.” She starts as an editorial assistant for a significant lifestyle media company next week.
The 5 Steps to Achieve Vision:
1. Write Vision
2. Create a Vision Board (gather critical words, pictures, and photos representing goals).
3. Steps to Achieve Vision Goal (blog, opportunities to write as freelancer, etc.).
4. Chart Growth
5. Be Patient and True to Dream
I was inspired to create my vision board that includes goals like starting this blog. This is my first step; the most challenging part is getting started.
AH! You did it ๐ Quite a loverly first post if I may say so myself. I’m glad that we will have a visual way to keep up with each when I leave ๐

We are never in the grip of blind chance, luck, or fate-outstanding
I agree! I have never believed in luck but favor is what I know and believe. Thank you for your support!!
Hi there!
This was a great first post! I am definitely writing down those 5 steps to creating a vision and, the best part, actually seeing it through! I, too, have been inspired by your amazing daughter and Channinginthecity.com, and I just created my blog today (http://sincerelyhoneyb.wordpress.com/). I can’t wait to follow your journey through your writing! Be abundantly blessed!
Thank you Bri! Congrats on your blog as well. Wonderful how one such as myself can gain inspiration from young ladies like you and my Channing.
Stacey, thank you for stopping, I truly appreciate your encouragement!
Congratulations!! Hopefully many will be inspired by you!!!
Marguerite, you found me, yay!!! Get ready I plan to feature you for my Women of Grace series!!
Hey Eugenia!
What a wonderful blog. I am so excited for you! You are off to a great start. I always love Habakkuk 2:2, 3 that states, ”ย And the Lord answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.”
Keep up the good work!
– A Sister in Christ –
Jewell,
Thank you for the Habakkuk scripture reference, perfect reminder and confirmation to “write the vision.”
Well, that is what your daughter Channing did, she wrote her Vision and made it plain for everyone in your family and on her blog, to see. She worked dilligently on her career, blog, and waited patiently and her Vision came to pass. God is good and worthy of all praise.
Halleluyah!
Amen!! Thank you Jewell!
OMG! First let me say that you are truly amazing and such an inspiration. I’m blessed to have met Channing back during our Freshman year because that also brought me you. I love that you are doing this blog and it so YOU! I’m excited to read it all the time and yes vision boards have helped me. I think sometimes we have a vision and educate others on what our vision is but then stop and don’t completely follow through. Vision boards help with that!
Serena,
It’s been my pleasure knowing and loving some fabulous “ladies.” I agree with you about the Vision Board, who knew? Glad we do know and can pursue our dreams/visions.
Love ya and hope to see you before graduate law school.
I was inspired by your grace when I met with you & Chan in Paris last summer what a spot on blog title I must say and it’s great that you’ve now put ink to screen I will be a regular for sure.

Chuggy, thank you for stopping by, I appreciate you.
My first suggestion is to: ย But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. (Matthew 6:33). I find if your put God first, everything else will fall into place. Let your first hour of the day be with God.
Amen! I agree!
I will be a regular reader.
Trent,
Hi! Thank you for supporting my venture into the blogging world.
I don’t know your daughter personally but I’m an avid reader of her blog and I am soooooooooooooo very proud of her. I “met” Channing by phone when she interviewed me for a feature when I was in law school. She’s a darling and an inspiration. You did a great job raising her.
Nika, thank you for kind words regarding Channing. Hopefully, you and Channing’s paths will cross for an opportunity to meet. Best wishes in law school.
