Goodbye January! Spring is just around the corner.  Even though that groundhog shmounghog said six more weeks of winter–evidenced by the endless winter storms the first week in February–I’m over this ongoing winter-y mix. Let’s focus on fashion forecast for spring!

I reported on emerald green as the 2013 Pantone color of the year in my Springing Forward with Kate post. Once again, Pantone Inc. (drum roll please) the global authority on color, announced that radiant orchid is the 2014 color of the year.

Radiant orchid is surely soon to become a timeless classic with an edge. In Pantone press release, the color institute’s executive director stated, “While the 2013 color of the year, Pantone 17-5641 Emerald, served as a symbol of growth, renewal and prosperity, radiant orchid reaches across the color wheel to intrigue the eye and spark the imagination.”

While Pantone is predicting the color of Spring, the fashion industry has its eye on New York Fashion Week, where, starting February 6th, designers will present their Fall 2014 collections to buyers, retailers, editors, journalists and bloggers with 69 runway shows and presentations. To view re-broadcast of live streaming for Mercedes-Benz New York Fall Fashion Week click here.

It seems cruel to think of Spring, and further Fall, when everyone across the United States is suffering from frigid temperatures thanks to a never-ending polar vortex. But considering that we know what Spring ‘IT’ color will be, let’s talk other important trends for the spring/summer months.

Top Spring Trends:
Color:  Not only radiant orchid as the “It” color but the return of Pumped-Up Pastels that include blues, pinks and yellows to name a few.

It’s hard to believe that Diane Von Furstenberg introduced the iconic wrap dress 40 years ago.  This lady-like vibe continues to be in full force this spring with bold floral prints and pastels dresses.
