This past weekend, I turned my home into the Double Nickels Art Gallery. The idea come a few months ago when I reconnected with an acquaintance from church. We recently became stepping buddies.
The event/party planner than I am, I commenced with the intimate details that are always involved when organizing a get together: selecting the date, invitations whether snail mail/use of social media and the menu. As well as how to set-up my traditional home as a Double Nickels Art Gallery for contemporary abstract artist Joyce.
I must admit I was a not true fan of contemporary abstract art. The art I’ve collected over the years is more traditional with African American artists like Michael Partee, Tom McKinney and Dane TIlghman for their limited editions. The art party was a learning experience for my husband and I. As each guest arrived at our home, the first comments were, I love abstract art.
It was fascinating to observe my guests as they slowly paced through the three rooms set up for the Double Nickels Art Gallery. To hear their comments on where the interested painting could be placed in their home or office. Some of the attendees thinking about the colors currently in the home as well as the hues in the artwork. Joyce offers a great customer service to bring the interested piece to the person’s designated location for the art placement.
I never plan a home party without giving small gifts that make my guests feel special for taking the time to attend an event at my home. I always give a small token for the first guest to arrive, the person that travelled the farthest and I raffle off a gift basket that I make full of goodies.
Now the menu, for me it’s about the visual presentation. I love using my collection of crystal and Wilton Armetale silver platters I’ve collected over the years to highlight the small bite selections. The health advocate that I am, I always offer seasonal fruit. This time of the year, the fruit selection included clementines, apples and grapes. Since it was an art event, I furnished the aptly appropriate wine, cheese and crackers. Thank you Costco for great protein cheese recommendations that included mild Brie, Gorgonzola and a Jarlsberg. The beverages, wine with sparkling San Pellegrino and flat water. Oh, I had to include soft Philly Pretzels.
Joyce, it was a fabulous day to watch my friends and family enjoy your abstract art. To watch them make purchases and most importantly the opportunity to make time to connect with special people you may not otherwise see. It was my pleasure to turn my home into a Double Nickels Art Gallery for an afternoon of art appreciation.
Have a fabulous week.

Cynthia,
Thank you for stopping by the Age of Grace. I stalked this Banana Republic dress from when it was shown at the NYFW Fall 2015 last spring. It was meant to be because with 40% off it was the last one in my size.
We missed having you at the Double Nickels Art Party.
First of all, let me begin by stating how absolutely elegant you look. Stunning. Regal. Perfection. I love the statement leg and necklace. Such a perfectly composed ensemble. You and I have something in common…I love throwing a good party. I receive so much joy in seeing others enjoy themselves.
Glenda,
